It’s Our Favorite Time of Year: Global Cares Month
MetLife recently released their 20th annual employee benefits study “The Rise of the Whole Employee” which discussed how employers can strengthen the whole employee experience. Unsurprisingly the study uncovered that employees who have purposeful work, social and supportive cultures and employee wellness programs and benefits are more than 1.5 times as likely to stay with their employer for 12 months or more than the average worker. And a beloved component of all those areas: volunteering.
Employees who participate in making the world a better place are happier and healthier which is why at LexisNexis we celebrate Global Cares Day! All employees across LexisNexis have had the opportunity to volunteer two full working days each year to team up and help a local cause or charity of their choice or volunteer remotely and this year it happens during the month of October.
In India, members of our team worked with school children to distribute books, stationery, and snacks. In Germany, our team from Bonn worked to clean up parts of the Ahr Valley that had been damaged by floods and in Japan LexisNexis employees cleaned up Shiba park. These are just a few examples of the ways that employees came together to work in their local communities. And together we were able to:
- Volunteer a total of 722 hours
- Across the US, Germany, Netherlands, India, Japan, Korea, and China
- And support 22 organizations
PRAKASHDEEP, Faridabad, India
Ahr Valley, Germany
Shiba Park, Tokyo, Japan
Organization Spotlight
In addition to the employee-driven cleanup efforts we also supported two organizations: Plastic Whale and Face to Face.
Plastic Whale’s mission is to create a plastic free land and sea. Their mission has 3 core tenants: collect, create, and educate. They collect as much plastic from waterways and canals as they can locally in the Netherlands and now globally. They create economic value with the waste that they retrieve by turning it into boats and office furniture. And they work with thousands of young people internationally delivering presentations and workshops to inspire companies and individuals to get involved with their mission. If you want to get involved with their mission, contact them.
Face to Face is an organization located in Philadelphia who believe Hospitality, Mutuality, and Transformation – speak to our belief that individuals experiencing poverty should be treated with respect. Their goal is to welcome everyone who enters their doors as guests, helping them fight off the root causes of poverty through their health, legal and social services centers. For locals, they are always looking for additional volunteers and for those throughout the world, they accept donations to keep their programs funded.
Both organizations are near and dear to our hearts, but we encourage everyone to volunteer with organizations in their communities that matter to them.
