This lecture provides a great introduction into what standard essential patents (SEPs) are, how FRAND is defined and why the FRAND framework still leaves room for discussion. The lecture goes on to explain about SEPs are licensing in patent pools or bilateral SEP licensing discussion. The lecture also discusses SEP litigation and SEP licensing outside of the smart phone world e.g. how SEPs are licensed in the auto industry and why yet only OEMs are targeted and what SEP licensing for IoT will look like.
